Recently there has been a change in IE involving where you need to sit. Before, in IE you were able to sit wherever you wanted while your teachers or instructors prepare for the rest of the day. During academic days, students have been instructed to sit with their program of study peers.
Students were not happy when they were told they had to sit in an assigned seat or area. Most kids weren’t the biggest fans of IE anyway, so when they were told to sit in an assigned area with people they might not know, their opinion on IE definitely got worse. Students feel like they are getting punished for no reason because some students just sit and not say anything or sleep, so now they have to sit in a random seat with random people even though they weren’t bothering anyone.
From a teacher’s perspective, this is how they can get students to sit and be quiet. Teachers expect students to treat IE as a study hall where they sit quietly and do work for their classes, but most kids take this as a free period, which means they aren’t quiet, sitting, or doing work, which may bother the teachers who have to cover that period who expected the students to just sit and do work. Teachers feel like if there were assigned seats, then kids would get work done and stay in the same seat quietly while the program instructors get ready for the day. Teachers also feel like some students are disrespectful and don’t follow rules during IE, so giving them assigned seats is the solution to all of their problems.
Which one is right? Which one makes more sense? Should we be able to sit wherever we want or do we need assigned seats to keep everything peaceful? Is assigned seats a stupid idea, or will it calm down kids who take their time in IE and do things they might not be supposed to do.
