One thing some students wonder about DC Tech is how good their sports teams would be if they had them. If this question was asked last year when I was a freshman, I would say that DCTS should have a sports team because they’ll have kids from all over Dauphin County and it would bring in many skilled athletes and put them on one team. Having a team can also help players build chemistry with each other when they are playing sports and when they are in the classroom, and with the right players, those kids can have better grades than what they are used to. I also felt like we had all the resources to have different sports teams in this school and we could be a big threat to other schools.
Now that I am a sophomore my opinion on this has completely changed. One reason my opinion has changed is because after playing with my home school for a year, I feel like I’m in a family environment whenever I’m there. Many students who play at home schools would be a lot more comfortable playing with their home school instead of playing on a team with players they may not know. Playing sports at your home school can be some students’ only way to connect with students who don’t go to DCTS and were good friends in middle school. One thing that helps different players is the noise made from the crowd. I know there are a lot of people in this school who can care less about sports and just do school work and get a good job, which will lead to low attendance at games. At other schools, there may be a similar problem with certain students, but there will most likely be a lot more students attending the game than there would be students who don’t attend the games. Also, what bus will take us to away games? Who would be the coach? Who would be there to organize the games? Where would we get jerseys and uniforms from? What conferences would we be in and who would we play? All these questions that will be answered with different arguments and debates which doesn’t help this situation at all?
Would you rather play at your home school, or would you rather have a team here to play on here at DCTS? Would you want to keep things the same way they are now, or would you rather change things up and play here? Everyone has different opinions and are comfortable with different things when it comes to sports. The question is, which decision is better?
